What is ASSP?

The Anti-Spam SMTP Proxy (ASSP) Server project aims to create an open source platform-independent SMTP Proxy server which implements auto-whitelists, self learning Bayesian, Greylisting, DNSBL, DNSWL, URIBL, SPF, SRS, Backscatter, Virus scanning, attachment blocking, Senderbase and multiple other filter methods.

How to Install ASSP on Windows?

Lets seperate Setup on three section.

  1. Get Setup Files
  2. Prepare system to ASSP Installation
  3. Install

1- Get Setup Files

2- Prepare system to ASSP Installation

  1. Install “Visual C++ 2008 Redistributables”
  2. Install “Win32 OpenSSL” with default settings.
  3. Extract “ASSP_2.4.3_14313_install.zip” on top of your C:\ drive
  4. Extract “assp.mod.zip” into C:\assp\ folder.
  5. Extract “strawberry_perl_5.20.1_x64__4-assp.zip” on top of drive C:\  . then rename folder as “Perl”
  6. Edit “C:\assp\assp.mod\install\install.cmd” file with notepad. Add line with “set ASSPDIR=C:\assp” to top of file. (Without quotes). Then Save and close file.
  7. Execute command on CMDcopy C:\Perl\c\bin\*.dll C:\Perl\perl\bin /Y
  8. Last step: change system environment variables with command line

How to change system environment variables with command line

We will write Perl and OpenSSL path information to system environment variables with CMD. Open CMD with Administrator rights. Then execute commands below.

setx /M PATH "%PATH%;C:\OpenSSL-Win32\bin;C:\Perl\perl\bin"

Now file tree looks like this
[C:\]
...|.......[assp]
...........|.......assp.pl
...........|.......assp.cfg
...........|.......[assp.mod]
...................|.......[install]
...........................|.......install.cmd
...|.......[OpenSSL.Win32]
...........|.......[bin]
...................|.......openssl.exe
...|.......[Perl]
...........|.......[Perl]
...................|.......[bin]
...........................|.......perl.exe

Now we are ready to Installation.

3- Install ASSP

  1. Open up CMD with Administrator rights
  2. Change directory to assp.mod installation folder. cd C:\assp\assp.mod\install\
  3. Start setup with CMD. install.cmd

Start ASSP and Access Web Console

Start console with;

cd C:\assp
perl assp.pl

Open up your favorite browser and connect to Web console

http://localhost:55555
Default Username: root
Default Password: nospam4me

End of tutorial 🙂
